Course Overview

It is difficult to argue against the fact that a team can accomplish more than any one individual. Yet, across many organizations we have dysfunctional teams, processes that lead toward competition, and attitudes of apathy towards teamwork, which directly impact productivity and quality.

In the Developing Dynamic Teams course, participants learn strategies to align their teams to work collaboratively toward common objectives, and implement processes that maximize team effectiveness and communication. Once the team is aligned with a powerful objective and obstacles have been removed, the results will speak for themselves.

Completing this course will help you:

  • Recognize the impact of aligning of high-performing teams around a common mission.
  • Identify and avoid common goal-setting mistakes.
  • Assess individual strengths in order to ensure the best possible team performance.
  • Determine measurement strategies as well as how to motivate others through task accomplishment.

Learning Path

Session 1 - Team Mission Planning

A team without direction is like a rudderless ship. In this session, we discuss the overall mission and direction of a team. The topics covered are the communication characteristics of high-performing teams, establishing the team’s value, contribution expectations, and creating the team’s mission statement.

Session 2 - Team Goals

Once the team’s mission is determined, and you know what you want to achieve, the next step is setting goals. When teams have challenging, meaningful goals to work towards, they come together as a more effective and collaborative unit. In this session, we learn to focus on goals and results, recognize and avoid common goal-setting mistakes, and create goals that align with the team’s mission statement.

Virtual Session (30 minutes)  + Online Journal (15 minutes) + Activity (15 minutes)

Session 3 - Assess Strengths

Teams benefit when individual members are fully aware of their strengths and weaknesses; however, leaders must understand the critical attributes of the team as a whole. In this session, we discuss assessing individual strengths to ensure the best possible team performance, aligning individual strengths with team goals, and building opportunities to development and enhance each team member’s strengths.

Virtual Session (30 minutes)  + Online Journal (15 minutes) + Activity (15 minutes)

Session 4 - Measurement and Motivation

At the most rudimentary level, an effective team is defined as one that has an impact above and beyond the individual contributions of any one team member. This above and beyond impact is measured at multiple levels: intangible performance, structural and relational metrics, and business results. Moreover, motivation is the bow that ties the entire package together. When you combine the energy, knowledge, and skills of a motivated team of people, you and your team can succeed. Topics covered in this session include establishing metrics for each team goal, methods for communicating progress, and implementing innovative ways to motivate teams.
