Servant Leadership is an extremely powerful leadership approach used by successful leaders world-wide, including those at Costco, FedEx, Starbucks and more. While other leadership philosophies are fixated on organizational goals, the servant leader remains focused on employee needs to maximize individual development and potential. These leaders know that providing employees what they need through Servant Leader principles leads to sustainable organizational success.

As a manager, using the Servant Leadership approach means to be focused on developing the Servant Leadership philosophy and its associated behaviors in your everyday practice, so that you can provide the necessary support to your employees and others. This course will help you to discover and develop the necessary Principles, Priorities and Practices of Servant Leadership, creating a strong foundation of professional service.

  • Review the fundamentals of servant leadership and the reasons people choose to follow servant leaders.
  • Discover the three Principles of Servant Leadership learn how to apply them.

Session 1 - The Servant Leadership Philosophy

In this session, participants will review foundational ideas of servant leadership and discuss how to begin building these ideas into an everyday, effective management practice.

Virtual Session (30 minutes) + Online Journal (15 minutes) + Activity (15 minutes)

Session 2 - Three Leading Principles of Servant Leadership

Participants in this session will continue to examine the values and goals of the servant leader through the three Leading Principles of Servant Leadership: Serve First, Persuasion, and Empowerment. We will discuss each and how they impact our effectiveness as a leader, as well as how to implement these principles in our actions.

Virtual Session (30 minutes) + Online Journal (15 minutes) + Activity (15 minutes)

Session 3 - Three Leading Priorities of Servant Leadership

Participants in this session will continue to examine the values and goals of the servant leader through the three Leading Priorities of Servant Leadership: Developing People, Building a Trusting Team, and Achieving Results. We will discuss each and how they impact our effectiveness as a leader, as well as how to implement these priorities in our actions.

Session 4 - Three Leading Practices of Servant Leadership

Participants in this session will continue to examine the values and goals of the servant leader through the Three Leading Practices of Servant Leadership: Listening, Delegating, and Connecting Followers to Mission. We will discuss each and how they impact our effectiveness as a leader, as well as how to implement these practices in our actions.
